Barratier's feel good film from 2004 took France by storm and was successful internationally. Based on a film made in the late 40's Barratier used popular actor Gérard Jugnot to bring to life Clément Mathieu a frustrated musician.

When the "pion" arrives at Fond de l'étang he can't get any lower but from small beginnings he creates something sublime musically in the choir he launches. Star singer Pierre Morhange lifts the standard to new levels and Mathieu makes it his mission to help this young man join the conservatoire in Lyon.

A clash with the head and a tantalizing love interest help keep this film engaging and melodramatic til the very end.
